ladylike – Fresh Linen

Brighton folk-rock quartet ladylike have shared “Fresh Linen”, the latest single from their debut EP It’s A Pleasure Of Mine, to Know You’re Fine, out March 13 via Heist or Hit. It follows lead track “Rome (in progress)” and comes ahead of the band’s signing to the label being formally announced.

The song moves quietly. Fingerpicked guitar, space between the parts, an arrangement that knows when to hold back. Lyrically it sits somewhere between letting go and finding your footing — “outside from fragile grasp / into my own” — and the writing process apparently matched that feeling. The band describe it as something that came together naturally over a series of days, less a constructed thing than a direct reflection of where they were. They also note it’s the most personal track on the EP, while still feeding into what they call the “band machine” — the sense that individually-written words become something else when played live together.
